What are the common breast surgeries?

The most popular procedure is breast augmentation with implants. Patients may choose from standard round implants, which are the most commonly used, or so called anatomical implants. The anatomical implants are more expensive, however, their structure and shape resemble natural breasts more than the round ones.

Breast enlargement may also be performed with fat tissue filler in a fat transfer procedure. This procedure uses natural fat tissue, which is first obtained from a patient’s body through liposuction. The major advantage of this surgery is a fact that the filler will not be rejected and there is smaller risk of infections. Nevertheless, as fat cells will absorb into the body sooner or later, it may lead to shape and size irregularities and the procedure will definitely need to be revised and repeated.

Another major surgery is breast reduction, which not only changes the size, but also the shape of breasts and repositions the nipples. This procedure is often combined with breast lift surgery or breast implants in order to achieve the best results. Sometimes breast lift is enough to improve the shape and position of breasts, however, it must be consulted with a specialist first. A breast lift, also referred to as mastopexy is especially recommended to women who would like their breasts to look more youthful and firmer. In this procedure breasts are lifted and the excess skin is removed.
In case of breasts disfigurement or removal after cancer clinics offer various procedures in order to reconstruct them. Breasts may be formed with tissue taken from the buttocks, back or tummy. Apart from natural material, silicone implants may be applied and a regular breast augmentation may be performed.
