Crowns are used in dental restoration process, in order to reshape and improve the look of a broken or damaged by cavities teeth, as well as to prevent weak tooth from breaking. A crown or a cap are firmly screwed to a tooth or attached to it using dental cement. A cap entirely covers and replaces the damaged tooth, as it looks like a natural and healthy tooth. Crowns can be acrylic or porcelain that are cheaper, however less durable. They are also made from gold and a metal alloys, which are more expensive but much stronger and durable. The average longevity of dental crowns is about 10 years, depending on the material used and whether patient keeps good dental hygiene.
Please, note that the final results depend not only on the surgeon, but also the anatomical conditions of the patient and healing process.
