Breast Implants Exchange or replacement is one of the most straightforward operations done under general anesthetic and involves removing the old breast implants and perhaps the surrounding breast scar tissue and replacing it with a new set of implants. Sometimes, though, the exchange is performed to create a more pleasing breast shape or a larger cup size. The difficulty of the surgery only depends on the reason for the breast implants exchange. If the implants are being exchanged for a new fill type or new size, then the process can be straight forward. Usually, the surgeon can go through the current scar. He will access the space where the current implant is located and removes it. If ruptured, he will also remove any ruptured material. A new implant is inserted and the procedure is done. Since the space already exists for the implant, the process is straightforward. If the reason for the exchange is different, the procedure might be more complex. Sometimes more work is needed within the breast to ensure that the new result will be as desired. Moving the implant to below the muscle is another example that needs more involved surgery. Each of these options will require more preparation and recovery time.
Not all the decisions here are made by the doctor, as patients may choose saline or silicone gel implants regardless of the type of implant that was originally inserted. By and large, the replacement of implants is in the same position as the original implants. Sometimes, women may choose to have their breast implants simply removed and this can be achieved with little to no resulting deformity.
Breast Implants Exchange
As far as preparation for the surgery is concerned, it is not as extensive as the first time. The surgeon will need to do an exam and certainly will ask a series of questions. This is in order to ensure that you qualify to undergo the procedure. Questions concerning your health state, previous surgeries, pregnancies and breastfeeding and any previous or current medical conditions are natural here.
What is more, the surgeons admit that the Breast Implants Exchange is a safe operation that takes about an hour and has very little pain associated with the recovery. Only minimal bruising and swelling is visible. After the procedure, it is advisable to wear a supportive surgical bra and have a rest. The clinic will provide you with prescriptions and all the medications that you should use. The first follow-up visits are generally about five days after the surgery. At this time, the surgeon will check your incisions and, additionally, you will be instructed as how you ought to massage your breast. During the time following Breast Implants Exchange, you will be responsible for carrying on your massage in order to be ensured that your breast implants settle into their desired location. Typically, this process requires around 5 minutes , and should be repeated 3 times a day. If you have stitches that need to be removed, they are taken out 10 to 14 days after surgery. The underarm incision is always closed with stitches that dissolve on their own. Being patient with the recovery process and exercise regularly is recommended at this step.
Please, note that the final results depend not only on the surgeon, but also the anatomical conditions of the patient and healing process.
If a patient is not satisfied with the results from the surgery and from the medical point of view there is a possibility to correct it, we offer corrective procedure free of charge. However, the patient needs to pay for flights, accommodation, etc. on his/her own.
